A university has a duty to exercise ordinary and reasonable care in directing a student to perform acts as part of its curriculum, even where it has no specific duty to protect the student from harm, according to the Court of Appeals of Utah .
The Court has reversed a trial court decision dismissing a claim for negligence against the University of Utah brought by a student who fell on the ice while crossing a condominium property to get to a geological site during an off-campus field trip.
