A Court of Appeals in Indiana has reversed a trial court decision that ordered a church to hold a general membership meeting to consider a contract extension for its pastor. The bylaws of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church provided procedures for selection of a new pastor and dissolution of the pastoral relationship. They also provided that the pastor had to sign a contract that would be negotiated and that the pastoral relationship should continue for an indefinite term so long as the relationship is mutually satisfactory to the pastor and the congregation.
