A part-time staff veterinarian may pursue negligent infliction of emotional distress and retaliation claims against her Humane Society employer after she was terminated following disputes over care of animals and improper use of regulated drugs, an appellate court in Tennessee has ruled. It has reversed a trial court decision throwing out the emotional distress claim and affirmed the trial court decision refusing to grant summary judgment against the vet on the retaliation claims.
