An unincorporated nonprofit association in Ohio can’t file suit in court without the assistance of an attorney, the state Supreme Court has ruled. Under the state’s rule that only a licensed attorney may file pleadings on behalf of another party, the Court found that the Army of the Twelve Monkeys, an unincorporated association of inmates who had filed a claim against the Warren Correctional Institution, was an entity separate and apart from its members and could not proceed without representation by an attorney.
