Our controller says we should not record Public Service Announcements on radio or television as an in kind donation because the stations are required to give a certain number each year. What should we do?
In kind contributions of services are not deductible by the donor or includable by a charity as revenue or support on its Form 990 tax return. Certain services may be includable on your financial statement so you should ask your accountant. You may want to mention the free ads in your statement of program service accomplishments on the Form 990 tax information return to help show the broad base of support you enjoy.
