AAUW drops racial requirement for fellowship

The American Association of University Women, a nonprofit membership association that has been working for more than 135 years to eliminate barriers to women’s educational access and economic opportunity, has settled a suit against it by agreeing to drop a requirement that an applicant for a fellowship program must be from “an underrepresented racial/ethnic background.” The case was brought by a group called Do No Harm, which describes itself as “a nationwide membership organization of healthcare professionals, students, patients and policy makers who want to protect healthcare from radical, divisive, and discriminatory ideologies.” It challenged a fellowship program to support women who...
