Cook for religious day school not covered by unemployment comp

A cook for the Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley is not covered by unemployment compensation because the School is not an “employer” under the Pennsylvania unemployment compensation law, the state’s Commonwealth Court has ruled.

The law excludes “an organization which is operated primarily for religious purposes and which is operated, supervised, controlled or principally supported by a church or convention or association of churches.”
