Court allows creditor to pursue alter ego claim against church

A federal District Court in Georgia has allowed the purchaser of distressed debt of Morris Brown College to proceed to try to prove that the African Methodist Episcopal Church, which has propped up the College by purchasing other debt and providing other subsidies, is the “alter ego” of the College and therefore directly liable for College debt.
