Court rejects appeal of Sierra Club volunteer

An appellate court in California has declined to provide assistance to a member of the Sierra Club who was suspended from volunteer leadership positions after a lengthy internal disciplinary process. It has refused to interfere with the internal affairs of the club. John Stump was first suspended by the Volunteer Leadership Advisory Committee of the San Diego chapter of the organization (called the “panel” in the opinion) from all volunteer leadership positions in August 2012 after he allegedly threatened an employee’s continued employment, engaged in harassment, caused others to become fearful and reluctant to participate in activities, and misdirected organizational funds.
