Total revenue received by private foundations rose nearly 22% between 2019 and 2020 while the number of private foundations increased by less than 1%, according to Internal Revenue Service statistics published recently. Total revenue jumped from $141.7 trillion in 2019 to $171.3 trillion in 2020, while the number of foundations edged up very slightly, from 103,299 in 2019 to 103,968 in 2020. The information was released recently in the Statistics of Income Tax which are normally published several years after the fact.
